What we believe at Cornerstone Church Lima about Jesus, the Bible, and the Church

Our Beliefs

DOCTRINAL STATEMENT

We believe:

  • The Bible is the living inspired Word of God – infallible, authoritative and everlasting, and the foundation of all Christian doctrine (2 Timothy 3:16-17, 1 Corinthians 2:13).

  • In the eternal Godhead who has revealed Himself and one God existing in the three persons; Father, Son, Holy Spirit; distinguishable but indivisible (Matthew 28:19).

  • In the creation, test and fall of man as recorded in Genesis; the resulting spiritually lost condition of all mankind that necessitates a new birth by faith in Jesus Christ.

  • In the Deity of our Lord Jesus Christ the Son of God; we believe in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, His constant intercession and in His imminent return.

  • In the salvation of sinners by grace, through repentance and faith in the perfect and sufficient work of the cross of Calvary by which we obtain remission of sins (Ephesians 2:8-9, Hebrews 9:12).

  • In the person and work of the Holy Spirit with His fruit evident in the life of the believer as listed in Galatians 5:22-23 and His gifts as enumerated in 1 Corinthians 12-14.

  • In the baptism of the Holy Spirit as a gift available to believers with the scriptural evidence namely, speaking in other tongues (Acts 2:1-4).

  • In the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper and baptism by full immersion in water for all believers (1 Corinthians 11:23-26, Matthew 28:19, Romans 6:3-5).

  • In the resurrection of both the saved and the lost, the one to everlasting life and the other to everlasting separation from God (John 5:24, John 3:16, Mark 9:43-48, 2 Thess. 1:9).

  • In the existence and personality of Satan and the eternal judgment of Satan and his angels (Matthew 25:41, Revelation 20:10-15).

  • In the Church being the body of Christ and the last instrument that God is using to extend His Kingdom prior to the return of Christ, and each member being an active part of a local church, fulfilling the great commission (Ephesians 3:10, Matthew 16:18, 1 Corinthians 12).
